One Pele record Messi could equal this weekend if he scores two goals.

Lionel Messi is an Argentine professional footballer who currently plays for Paris Saint Germain in France. He spent over twenty years at Barcelona, where he won almost everything there is to be won in football, before joining the French club this summer.

If there's one player who deserves to be regarded as the greatest player the game has ever seen, then it is Lionel Messi. The former Barcelona skipper has been arguably the finest player on the planet for almost two decades, setting, equaling and breaking a series of records in the process. His outstanding numbers in the game include, most goals in a single calendar year, with 91goal, a feat he achieved in 2012. Most Ballon D'or awards won, with six awards to his name, most European Golden boots won, among others. This weekend, he could break or at least equal another Pele record if he scores two goals for PSG against Marseille.

Having initially struggled for a couple of matches upon joining PSG this summer, Lionel Messi is finally finding his feet in the French capital, scoring three goals in three Champions League game for them already this season. His two goals in the game against Red Bull Leipzig during the week took his tally for the year to Forty goals in all competition for both club and country. He will have the opportunity of setting another record of the first player in the history of football to score at least 50goals in ten different calendar years in his career if he score 10more goals before the year runs out.

In his quest to set that record, Messi will play at least 14 matches before the end of the year, starting with the game against Marseille in the French Ligue 1 tomorrow. One Pele record Messi could equal in the encounter against Marseille is the record of most career goals scored. With his brace against Leipzig on Tuesday, Lionel Messi has now scored 755 career goals, just two behind the Brazilian great, as such, if he manages to score at least two goals tomorrow, he will equal the former Santos striker's record.
