Three Huge Selection Decisions That Mikel Arteta Has To Make Ahead Of The Match Against Leeds United

After Arsenal's scintillating performance against Aston Villa last Friday in which the Gunners emerged victorious by a 3-1 scoreline, a tough Carabao Cup clash awaits against Leeds United in the last-16 stage of the competition.

These are three huge selection decisions that await Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta ahead of the match against Leeds United and they are highlighted below.

1. Left-back: Nuno Tavares had an excellent full Premier League debut against Aston Villa last Friday. The youngster was athletic, physical, aggressive, strong and above all intelligent in his decision making. The amount of attacking runs he made down the left flank was remarkable.

He was included in the starting line-up due to an injury to Kieran Tierney. It is not yet known if the Scottish left-back will be available to play against Leeds United. If he is, then Mikel Arteta has to decide if he starts Nuno Tavares, Kieran Tierney or maybe Ainsley Maitland Niles for the game against Leeds United.

2. Gabriel Martinelli: It seems logical to think the Brazilian winger will be given a run-out against Leeds United. But it is not yet known if he should be played as a lone centre forward or on the flanks. Alexandre Lacazette's form against Aston Villa suggests Mikel Arteta could rest him for Premier League games. So the decision falls to the manager on which position to select Gabriel Martinelli.

3. Centre-Back: Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes have formed a formidable partnership in Arsenal's centre of defence. Both are adept at playing the forward passes and defending on the front foot. Mikel Arteta's tactics rely heavily on these two players but he may have to rest them for the weekend.

His other options are Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and Pablo Mari. So a decision has to be made on which centre-backs would start the game against Leeds.
