When Mourinho and his Roma players left Rome and travelled to Norway to face Bodoe/Glimt, they would have thought this was an opportunity for the them to get back to winning ways after their unfortunate defeat in the Serie A on Sunday.
But as the game kicked off, the Giolorossi were shocked to find out that their opponent on the night are a very good side that could hurt them pretty badly if they don't play well.
In 20 minutes they were two nil down and had a mountain to climb. But the biggest problem for them was that, Jose Mourinho decided to rest his best players.
Not that it was a bad decision considering they have been playing so many games lately and that their next match is against the in-form Napoli at the weekend.
But it was the decision to field a young and inexperienced team that was Roma's undoing tonight.
Mourinho did what any good manager would do, give the fringe players an opportunity to shine and show their quality. But the result means he can only blame himself.
This result will rank at the very top of the list of Mourinho's biggest defeats and that is not a good thing for a team who will have to play a Napoli that is yet to drop points so far this season. Very worrying time for Mourinho.
