Why Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu may flop at Athletico Madrid

Nigeria's striker Paul Onuachu is attracting interest from current Spanish champions Athletico Madrid, according to reports.

Spanish media reported that, the Diego Simeone's side have made a concrete offer for the striker and want him to join them when the transfer window reopen in January.

Onuachu is valued at €25million by Genk, and Athletico Madrid are confident a deal could be agreed in January.

Athletico Madrid's interest is a welcome development for Paul Onuachu, but, I think, he's not a perfect fit for Athletico Madrid and shouldn't make the mistake of signing for them.

No doubt about Paul Onuachu's ability to score plenty of goals as he scored 35 goals for Genk last season, and he has netted 11 in all competitions so far this season,

However, the Belgian league isn't on the same level with Spanish championship and Onuachu might flop in Spain.

Football in Spain is faster and technical, which does not suit Onuachu's style of play. He's a traditional striker who likes to sit in the box and expect the ball at his feet, unlike the modern forward.

Spanish Clubs likes to play with a striker who can link up with the midfielders and create chances for others. Onuachu lacks these qualities, and he's not at the period, where he can adapt his game anymore.

In addition , going to Athletico Madrid when the likes of Luis Suárez, Angel Correa and Antoine Griezmann are on the payroll of the club is dangerous.

Onuachu isn't as good as any of these strikers, and joining Athletico means, he will be their back up.

I will advise him to stay put at Genk, and wait for an offer from a club that suits his style.
