Romero was comfortable with his position as the second-choice goalkeeper in Manchester United because all the previous coaches that coached Manchester United before Solskjaer took over gave Romero the chance to keep some matches for Manchester United.
Things started looking tough for Romero ever since Dean Henderson started performing well for his former club, Sheffield United. Back then, Henderson was on loan to Sheffield United and as such, he was eligible to return to Manchester United after his loan spell had expired.

Henderson was on top of his game and Manchester United did not want him to join another club. In an attempt not to let the opportunity of bringing Henderson back to Manchester United, Henderson was called back to Manchester United with the view of potentially replacing David de Gea.

Henderson returned to Manchester United and it was looking likely that he will replace De Gea as Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper. Automatically, Romero went from being the second-choice down to becoming the third-choice in the team. No ambitious goalkeeper will remain a third-choice goalkeeper in a club when he is young enough to be the first choice.

As expected, Romero had to start thinking about life away from Manchester United. At some point last season, David de Gea was Manchester United's second-choice goalkeeper while Henderson was on top of the food chain. Romero's rank in Manchester United decreased from second-choice to third-choice.

Romero has been trying to find a new club for some months. Fortunately for Romero, he has finally signed for Venezia in the Italian League. Romero left Old Trafford on a free transfer deal. One of the reasons why Romero experienced a downfall in Manchester United was because of the emergence of Henderson whom Manchester United was not willing to let go of.
