West London is set to host a rare derby of it's kind in a long time, as Brentford Football Club welcomes Thomas Tuchel and his Chelsea boys in a Matchday Eight clash in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
The match is truly a West London Derby affair, as both Brentford and Chelsea are separated by less than 10 miles geographically - with both sides facing each other in a competitive league match for the first time in 74 years. They last took on each other in a domestic campaign in 1947, until the 2013 FA Cup fourth round which ended in a 2-2 draw at Griffin Park (Brentford's old stadium), with Chelsea winning the replay 4-0. They both played each other in the 2017 FA Cup fourth round, with the Blues running away 4-0 winners.
The match will not be a stroll in the park for Chelsea as the Bees have made a superb start to the season, losing just once and are in seventh place on the table, while the Blues are currently topping the Premier League standings.
BRENTFORD TEAM NEWS: Manager Thomas Frank’s side have had a relatively easy schedule so far, which has seen them beat Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United, and have drawn with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Liverpool.
Josh Dasilva is unavailable as he is currently recovering from a “rare” hip problem with no timeframe set for his return. He has not been registered to play at the moment. Other notable absentees from the Bees squad include center back Mads Sørensen and midfielder Shandon Baptiste. Key defensive midfielder Vitaly Janelt and towering defender Kristoffer Ajer are both expected to return from recent injury layoffs.
CHELSEA TEAM NEWS: Coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed that four players are set to miss out, with Thiago Silva returning late due to South America's FIFA World Cup qualifying schedule (and in semi-quarantine). German international Antonio Rüdiger and American forward Christian Pulisic are both injured, while Moroccan attacker Hakim Ziyech is a doubt for the encounter.
