The six-time Balon d'Or holder has always been impressive for Barca and that is one thing that fans of the club loved about him. Messi loved the club and the fans, but he had to leave as the club could not agree on his contract due to some of the rules laid down by La Liga.
The president of the club, Joan Laporta who also misses the football legend has recently stated that if Messi had changed his mind and decided to play for free, he would have liked that.
Messi who is now a forward for the Paris Saint-Germain football club was about to sign a new contract for Barca on reduced wages but he couldn't due to La Liga rules and had to move to PSG on a free transfer.
Messi is one of the Football greats from Barca who had to leave due to the Club's financial issues.
Joan Laporta has recently spoken in an interview about Messi and what he hoped would have happened. Joan stated that he wasn't angry at Messi because he appreciated the player.
He said that he was aware that Messi had wanted to stay but PSG had offered him a very good contract which was quite powerful. The president admitted that he had hoped that Messi would change his mind at the last minute about the PSG offer and would have decided to play for free.
He stated that he would have liked that and would have been convinced to allow him to do so. He mentioned that even the league would have accepted his offer but they cannot ask a player of his level to do so.
The Barca president also spoke on the contracts of the youngsters at the club. He stated that the club is working towards renewing all their contracts and he hopes to give good news by next week.
The president also spoke about the Club's manager who has been under fire recently due to the team's performance. The president was positive about Koeman and stated that the manager was satisfied with his team.
