Attempting to remember the last time Timo Werner scored for Chelsea in the premier league, one has to go as far back as November against Sheffield United.
Since November, Timo Werner has been finding it difficult to score. Or should I say he has been lucky? Well, with all the chances that came his way, it's arguably so.
But after 14 games, the Chelsea number 11 scored against Newcastle United. The goal was Werner's first in 14 games but was Chelsea's second of the game.
Olivier Giroud had earlier put the host in front after coming on to replace the injured Tammy Abraham. After some great run from Werner down the left, Newcastle defenders failed to deal with his cross and Olivier Giroud was on hand to smash home from close range.
The win was Chelsea's fourth in five games under Thomas Tuchel who took over from Frank Lampard. The German tactician has quickly stamped his style of play in the team. Switching to a back three, the new coach has reinstalled Rudiger, Alonso and Hudson Odoi to the starting eleven.
In today's game, Thomas Tuchel also gave Kepa Arrizabalaga his first start since October. The Spanish goalkeeper didn't disappoint as he kept a clean sheet.
The result saw Chelsea moved up to fourth position above West Ham and Liverpool in fifth and sixth respectively.
But for most Chelsea fans, their delight was that Timo Werner has finally found the back of the net. Some of them expressed their joy on Facebook.
