Chelsea's Edouard Mendy went home with the goalkeeper of the 2020/2021 UCL tournament having kept 9 clean sheets in 12 matches. He won the award ahead of Manchester City's Ederson Moraes and Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois. It was well deserved by him.
The defender of the 2020/2021 UCL season was won by Manchester City's Ruben Dias after a strong campaign. He won the prestigious award ahead of Chelsea's duo Antonio Rudiger and skipper, Caesar Azpilicueta.
The Midfielder of the 2020/2021 UCL season was deservedly won by Chelsea's midfield general, Ngolo Kante. Kante had a strong UCL campaign last season and was instrumental as Chelsea secured the prestigious trophy. He won the award ahead of team mate, Jorginho Frello and Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne.
Erling Haaland surprisingly went home with the forward of the Campaign having scored lot of goals and led his team, Borussia Dortmund to the quarter finals of the competition. He defeated Kylian Mbappe and last year's winner Robert Lewandowski to the award.
Thomas Tuchel won the coach of the season award ahead of Italy's Roberto Mancini and Manchester City's mastermind, Pep Guardiola.
Barcelona femeni swept all award categories after a brilliant campaign which saw them lift the treble.
But the cream of the award ceremony, the UEFA player of the year award sparked controversy among fans around the world. The prestigious award was won by Chelsea's Jorginho having received 175 votes from Journalists world wide. Jorginho deservedly won the UEFA player of the year award due to the fact that he had a very strong campaign which saw him win the Champions League and Super Cup with Chelsea and the Euro 2020 with the italian national team.
Kevin De Bruyne came second on the list ahead of Ngolo Kante after a great season with Manchester City and the Belgium national team. An injury in the final of the Champions League prevented De Bruyne from lifting the trophy. He was also instrumental in Belgium's Euro 2020 run to the quarter finals. He received 167 votes from Journalists around the world. 8 votes short of that of Jorginho.
Ngolo Kante came third in the list. Although he won the UCL midfielder of the season, it wasn't enough to earn him the Player of the Season award. He had a magnificent run with Chelsea in the Champions League, bossed Chelsea's midfield all through the campaign. Unfortunately for him, he didn't go far with France in the Euros which reduced his charge for the POTY. He got 160 of the votes by Journalists.7 short of that of Kevin De Bruyne.
In 4th came Lionel Messi who is now at Paris Saint-Germain. Messi had a not too good European Campaign last season with Fc Barcelona having being eliminated by Kylian Mbappe's Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16. Although he's had a breathtaking 2021 for both club and country, it wasn't enough to earn him a top 3 spot. He garnered 148 of the votes.
In 5th is last year's winner, Robert Lewandowski. Lewandowski was having another season to remember until he unfortunately had an injury which kept him out of Bayern's clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the Quarter finals. In general, he had a wonderful club campaign with Bayern Munich but didn't go far with Poland in the Euro 2020. He had 140 points.
In 6th is the Euro 2020 player of the tournament, Gianluigi Donnarumma. Donnarumma helped AC Milan qualify for this year's Champions League after which he left for Paris Saint-Germain. He was outstanding in the Euro 2020. Led Italy to two successful penalty shootout victory against Spain in the Semifinal and England in the final of the tournament. He could boast of not conceding 2 goals in regulation time during the tournament. He was really a safe hand. The only goalkeeper in the list with 49 points.
In 7th came Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe was among the Nominees for the UCL forward of the season having impressed last season including scoring an hat-trick against Barcelona in the round of 16 first leg in Spain. He had a good club campaign but was poor for his country as he didn't grab any goal in the Euros. He had 31 points from Journalists.
Raheem Sterling claimed the 8th position. Sterling shone when his country needed him the most. Although was vital in Manchester City's league double victory but made a name for himself as he single-handedly carried England to their first major final in 55 years. Unfortunately, lost it to Italy. He had 18 points from Journalists.
Cristiano Ronaldo came 9th in the list. He didn't have a good season with Juventus as their Scudetto run finally came to an end and they struggled to make the top 4 in Serie A. He claimed the top scorer award in the Euro 2020 tournament after netting 5 goals during Portugal's duration in the tournament. That was enough to earn him a top 10 spot. He had 16 points.
UCL forward of the 2020/2021 season Erling Haaland occupied the 10 position in the list. Haaland has proven to be one for the future and a deadly finisher as well. He was instrumental in Dortmund's Champions League quater final run scoring lot of goals during their duration in the competition. Unfortunately for him, he didn't qualify for the Euro 2020 with Norway. He got 15 points from Journalists.
