Arsenal came under fire after failing to qualify for any of Europe's league competitions.
Arsenal's problems began last season when several of their defenders were injured. Despite Mikel Arteta's changes to the squad, the situation reached a point where Arsenal couldn't keep a clean sheet in the EPL.

Week in and week out, Arsenal made costly defensive errors that led to goals. It significantly affected their season, as they missed out on the CL, Europa, and Conference leagues altogether.
However, we have every reason to assume that Arsenal will be different in the 2020/22 EPL season.
Mikel Arteta's signings demonstrate that he has recognized Arsenal's defense as a position that requires immediate attention.
Remember that Arsenal has already signed three players. Of the 3 players signed, two of them are defenders (Nuno Tavarese and Ben White).

Arsenal appear to be stronger defensively at the present, since they already have experienced players in place before recruiting further ones to assist in the defense.
Another reason to believe that there is hope for Arsenal in defense this season is an incident that happened when Arsenal played a friendly against Chelsea on Sunday.
After Ben White was introduced, he made a vital block in the defense that impressed every Arsenal fan out there. Blocking a shot is not a "big deal", especially if you are a defender.
However, the manner in which the block was done makes it remarkable.
Hakimi Ziyech was on the verge of scoring when Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno ran out to meet him. But Ziyech cleverly skipped past him.

Callum Chambers initially slowed Ziyech down, allowing White to make the block, but the new Arsenal centre-back showed good pace to throw himself at Ziyech's shot.
His effort to avert that goal did not go unnoticed by Arsenal fans, as some took to social media to praise the defender as "The only White in North London," according to Daily Mail online.
In my opinion, Arsenal are recreating the days of Martin Keown, Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole. The kind of intensity defending by the likes of Ashley Cole has long been absent from Arsenal's defense, and with the inclusion of Ben White, it seems that situation is about to be back at Arsenal once more.
