Opinion: Two strategies Manchester United could use to improve their defense this season.

Manchester United football club will be hoping to keep more clean sheets this season so that they can also produce better results.

But the red devils will need a better defense line before they can stop their opponents from scoring against them, so here are two strategies Manchester United could use to improve their defense this season.

1 - Use three defenders: Manchester United are not known for using three defenders in their lineup, but the strategy has been very effective for clubs like Chelsea football club in previous seasons.

The three defenders should be newly signed Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly or victory Lindelof while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw will still play as the full-backs, but in more attacking positions.

When three defenders are in the defense line of the team, they will find it very easy to combine and form a good defense that will be very hard for the opposing team to break.

All the three defenders will concentrate in marking the opposing attackers and preventing them from getting into the box. Whereas, only two defenders are always doing the defensive work when the team is using four defenders.

This is because the two full-backs will play as defenders, but will concentrate more in attacking, this is not the case in a defense line that is made up of three players because all the three defenders will be central defenders.

2 - Use two defensive midfielders: When there are two defensive midfielders in a team, the defenders will benefit indirectly from it because the defensive minded midfielders are always preventing the opposing attackers from putting much pressure on the defenders.

The two defensive midfielders will also help the defenders by marking the opposing players and winning possession of the ball whenever the team losses it, they will also stop the opposing players from circulating the ball around.

With the strategy of using two defensive midfielders, the opposing team will find it very difficult to score against Manchester United this season.

Meanwhile, should Manchester United switch to the formation of three defenders this season? Share your own views with us, thanks.
