Micheal Laudrup is one of the very few players to have enjoyed success on the both sides of the Classico divide and is still loved by fans on the both side. Micheal was the lynch pin of Cruyff's dream team at Barcelona, as they won Barca's first ever UCL title and won 4 consecutive LaLiga titles from 1990-1994.
But when Barcelona reached in the UCL final again in 1994, Cruyff dropped Laudrup, infact he wasn't even included in the squad. As Capello's Milan put Barca's dream team to the sword and won by 4-0, Capello said in the post-match "Laudrup was the one I feared the most, but he was left out by Cruyff thankfully".
Amid severe tensions with the Coach Johan Cruyff, Laudrup moved to Real Madrid in the summer of 1994. Barca had won 4 consecutive titles but yet Michael choose to move to Real Madrid. Whether it was just a coincidence or not, Cruyff's dream team turned into a nightmare once Laudrup left for Real Madrid, they wouldn't win any trophy under Cruyff after that.
But before that, Laudrup was part of the Barcelona side when they thrashed Real Madrid by 5-0 on 8 January 1994 at Nou Camp.
Almost exactly a year later on 7 January 1995 Cruyff's dream team traveled to the Bernabéu to face their old team-mate for the first time.
After just 5 minutes a delicate pass from Laudrup through to Raúl led to Ivan Zamorano openings the scoring for Real Madrid. A few minutes later Laudrup would recreate his assist.
from the last El Classico, only this time he provided a chance of a tap in to Zamorano instead of Romario. As Ivan Zamorano completed his hattrick and 2nd half goals from Luis Enrique and Amavisca completed the rout, the final score was 5-0, the favor had been returned. As Barca's dream side were blown away by a struggling Real Madrid side.
When Real Madrid's Assistant Coach Angel Cappa returned to the dressing room, he found Laudrup sitting calmly and totally relaxed, he turned to his Coach and said "I feel like I've won 10-0.
After an average 1995/96 season there were rumors circulating Laudrup might leave Real Madrid in the summer. One afternoon he having a lunch in a restaurant in Madrid, the King of Spain Juan Carlos walked to him and asked "I heard you are leaving Real Madrid", Laudrup replied Yes. Juan Carlos says "Oh Good, now I'll be the only King in Madrid"!
