This season’s UEFA Champions League started with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo playing in in two separate league after their summer transfer to Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United respectively.

(Ronaldo and Messi).

Messi who won the Champions League 4 times while playing for Barcelona, will be hoping to join the league of players to have won the trophy with two different clubs. Unlike Messi, Ronaldo has won the Champions League 5 times and with two different clubs (Ronaldo first won the Champions League with Manchester United in the 2007/2008 season before winning it with Real Madrid in the 2013/2014, 2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 seasons)

Other players to have won the Champions League with two different football clubs include; Xabi Alonso (For Liverpool and Real Madrid), Samuel Eto’o (For Barcelona and Inter Milan), Gerard Pique (For Manchester United and Barcelona), Toni Kroos (For Bayer Munich and Real Madrid) Deco (For Porto and Barcelona), Edwin van der Sar (For Ajax and Manchester United) and Marcel Desailly (For Marseille and AC Milan).

However, Ronaldo and Messi have been instrumental for their various teams in the Champions League this season, as they both scored in their third group stage matches. Ronaldo was on target for Manchester United as they came from 2 goals down to defeat Atlanta at Old Trafford (Ronaldo scored the winning goal for Manchester United as they won 3-2).

Messi, also scored 2 goals for PSG in their victory over RB Leipzig (Messi scored the second and third goal in PSG’s 3-2 win). Messi, first opened his Champions goal account this season with a wonderful placed goal against Manchester City as he now has a total of 3 goals from 3 matches.
