Thiago Silva has today, September 22, added another year to his age as he turns 37 years old. The legendary Brazilian defender is undoubtedly one of the greatest defenders of his generation and the fact that he's still playing on this level at his age is something truly exceptional.
Since then he's won the Uefa Champions League and the Uefa Super Cup. His success at the club is no fluke because he has contributed immensely to their incredible defensive statistics.
Just last weekend the legendary player put out a Man of The Match performance against Tottenham Hotspur in the London derby.
His defending was first class and he even got himself a goal and almost added another.
Judging by the performance and what we've been seeing for a while, Thiago is not done at the top level. But will Chelsea extend his contract after this one?
As you know, Chelsea have a policy of usually offering one-year contract extensions to players that are 30 years or over. Silva's contract was extended by a year after he won the Uefa Champions League last season.
This means his current contract will expire in June of 2022. But will Chelsea extend the 37 years old's contract again?
If this was left to Chelsea fans, they'd give Silva a contract for as long as he can still kick a ball. But the way the club and Marina Granovskaia work, nobody can really say what will happen.
But it'll be important that they have a player like that around the team. He's won so much in his life and that experience can never be replaced. It is not a fluke that Chelsea are now addicted to winning matches and trophies. It is because of players like Thiago Silva who have brought with them the winning mentality.
