Manchester United were looking for redemption in the English Premier League today when they welcomed relegation-threatened Southampton at the Old Trafford Stadium. A 10-man Manchester United side failed to bounce back to winning ways in the competition as they held Southampton to a disappointing goalless draw at full-time. Both sides had a point each from this encounter since they couldn't bag the win in the whole 90 minutes of football action.
Well, Wout Weghorst remained unchanged in Manchester United's starting lineup today as he had a terrible performance against Southampton. Without even picking up an injury, the Dutch International was subbed off in the first half of the game and got replaced by Scott McTominay. I know many might say it was because Manchester United got a red card in the game that why he got substituted for a defensive midfielder in Scott McTominay.
Well, there might be some truth in this claim but it doesn't change the fact that the Dutch International barely impacts Manchester United's performances in matches. In the 44 minutes he played in this game, the 31-year-old had only 10 touches of the ball with just one shot on goal which is very disappointing. I believe his awful performance explains why Manchester United are lucky to have him just on loan. Having him just on loan means Man United will have to tolerate his poor performances for just this season before he returns to his parent club. The Dutch International doesn't deserve to be in a top club like Manchester United and his poor performances say it all.
