MAN UNITED VS VILLARREAL: 2 Changes Ole Could Make To Secure Victory In The UCL

Man United take on Spanish opponents Villarreal in the UCL on Wednesday 29th September in what is set to be an entertaining encounter. The Spanish team will fly in to play the match hosted in Old Trafford. Ole will have some bad blood left from his Europa League finals defeat at the hands of the Spanish players.

This group stage gives him two chances to enact his revenge on them by securing all 6 points against them. They face each other for the first time this season tomorrow and below are 2 changes Ole could make to secure victory against the Spanish Outfit.

A back 5 Defensive Pairing

This is one tactical tweaking we don't see Ole use a lot, but after the defensive woes we have faced this season it will be wise to try out these new methods. The Maguire Varane partnership that United have stuck with this season has not been solid enough as the team have conceded too many goals for their defence to be called solid.

Last season when the defence pairing was Maguire and Lindelof we experienced more success than this. A back three will ensure the Maguire Lindelof pairing and the addition of Varane for support to give the team more solidity at the back. In addition to these three center backs, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot can provide support from wide to complete the 5 man back line.

Matic-McTominay Midfield Pairing

One change that will definitely appease Man United fans is the replacement of Fred by the Serbian Matic. Fred lacks the technicality that Matic possesses and also lacks the defensive acumen present in McTominay, this makes them perfect replacements for him.

It will definitely excite fans to see this midfield pairing as it is obvious they are tired of the McFred pairing. Employing this tactic will guarantee them a better midfield and lead to better attacking and defensive play.
