3 athletes that have lifetime endorsement deals with Nike

Nike is a popular brand that manufactures sports gears. For decades, the company has associated itself with popular players in marketing campaigns to present its services to the sporting World. Some athletes currently have multi million dollar contracts with Nike, but only three athletes have managed to sign a lifetime deal with the sportswear brand.

A lifetime deal is a deal that will last throughout an athlete's life. Usually, an endorsement deal with any company ends when the player or athlete retires. However, Nike decided to reward these three athletes for their passion for their respective sports and most importantly, their popularity and marketability.

1. Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan is, on many counts, the greatest basketball player of all time. The legend ruled the 1980's and 1990's thanks to his ability on the basketball pitch. He was the most popular athlete on the planet during the 1990's. As expected, Nike got into a deal with him. He was paid millions of dollars for being a brand ambassador.

Towards his retirement, he founded Air Jordan, a sports gear company just like Nike. Rather than enter into a fierce competition with Nike, he opted for a lifetime partnership with the company in 1988. That deal still stands till date and will currently has no expiry date.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo

In 2016, Cristiano Ronaldo got into a rare deal with Nike. Years earlier, Nike already signed him as a brand ambassador. However, in 2016, he was gifted a lifetime contract with Nike. The deal will remain valid even after Ronaldo's retirement from football.

Currently, Ronaldo earns 25 million dollars annually from his Nike deal alone. He has also collaborated with Nike to manufacture his own 'CR7' customised boots. The Portuguese superstar is worth around 500 million dollars at the moment.

3. LeBron James

The American basketball player is the third and final player to have a lifetime deal with Nike. In 2003, Nike first approached LeBron James to have him as an ambassador. It was in 2015 that the giant brand decided to hand him a lifetime contract.

Like Ronaldo, LeBron James collaborated with Nike to manufacture his line of sneakers. The sales from his line of sneakers reportedly made Nike 400 million dollars in 2016. LeBron James is currently worth over 400 million dollars.
