UEFA Champions League

4 Times Ronaldo and Messi Exhibited Unexpected Gestures During and After Games.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two greatest footballers the world has ever witnessed for the past 13 years and counting. They have won the most coveted award in football history (Ballon d'Or) 11 times between themselves.

However, some sections of the football fans believe that one is greater than the other for reasons such as the number of awards won, the number of goals scored, the number of trophies won, etc.

Although these statistics could be used in their judgment the one that seems unjustifiable is when they're judged character-wise. Alot of people believe Cristiano Ronaldo is arrogant, proud, and selfish but say otherwise for the diminutive Argentine.

However, the narrative has changed ever since both players moved from their previous clubs to a new one during the just concluded summer transfer window. Messi finally cut ties with Barcelona after spending 21 years of his life at the club, won lots of trophies and personal accolades.

He joined his former teammate Neymar at Paris Saint Germain on a two-year deal with an option to extend by another year. He has played four times for the French Capital club and scored one goal which was in a UEFA Champions League match against Manchester City.

Cristiano Ronaldo on the other hand broke the heart of the old ladies fans with his surprise request to leave the club after playing a game for the club at the start of the current season.

He made a sensational return to Manchester United where he started his path to stardom in 2003 and went on to win his first Ballon d'Or with the English Club.

He also signed a two-year deal with an option to extend by another year. He has played four times for the Red Devils and scored four goals across all competitions.

Having said that, let's look at the four Incidents which moved football fans across the world with compassion and more love for the superstars.

1. Lionel Messi Obliges To an Opponent's Request To Have Selfie with Son On PSG Debut.

The warm reception Lionel Messi received on the day he made his Paris Saint Germain debut was similar to a king's return as the whole stadium was lit with banners, flags, and fireworks. It was an away game at Stade Reims with Messi coming on in the 66th minute of the match as a replacement for Neymar.

After the game, he was approached by the Reims goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic with his son and requested that he takes a photo with the Argentine. The beauty of the whole scenario was how Messi accepted to carry the boy in his arms and stood for a photograph which was so unlike him as before now, he would only accept a Selfie.

The goalkeeper was moved with tears as he watched the greatest player in the world carry his innocent son without any sign of disturbances from the Argentine.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo Gifts His Signed Jersey To an FC Young Boys Steward.

Cristiano Ronaldo was in action against Young Boys in their first match of the UEFA Champions League at the Wankdorf Stadium. Before the kick-off, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner had his miscued shot hit a Steward during the warm-up section.

He hurriedly left the pitch to see the lady who was hit by his ball and ensured that she was fine as medics attended to her. Manchester United however lost that game to Young Boys by 2-1 but that didn't stop the Portuguese international from going back to offer his jersey to the lady as a way of saying sorry for getting hit by his ball.

The Cristiano Ronaldo who exhibited such a classy gesture was quite different from the one who would head straight into the tunnel with his head held low as a form of disappointment without remembering such a lady existed.

3. Messi agrees to lay on the floor as part of the wall during the UEFA Champions League game

The world football was shocked when they saw Lionel Messi laying on the floor in a bid to stop a free kick in their second UEFA Champions League game against Manchester City.

That act caused an uproar on social media with Rio Ferdinand terming it 'disrespectful' on the Paris Saint Germain players to have allowed him to do that irrespective of the manager's decision.

I think that was a real definition of 'humility on the part of the Iconic player who over the years had players worship and adorn him for the things he did but for doing that last night, it was simply unbelievable. A new home and a new lifestyle indeed!

4. Ronaldo Humility In the Aston Villa Defeat

Manchester United lost their second home game in a row against Aston Villa after falling to a shock 1-0 defeat last weekend. It was a day to remember for Cristiano Ronaldo as he was unable to have a single shot at goal in the defeat.

However, the moment came in the late minutes of the game when Manchester United was awarded a penalty kick with Bruno Fernandes picking the ball to the spot-kick.

He however missed and surprisingly, Ronaldo was the first to console him by tapping him on his belly. This was shocking to football faithful as they expected him to take a dig at Bruno Fernandes.
