As the top four race heats up, Chelsea will be in action against Liverpool on Thursaday while Manchester United their opponents last Sunday will play against Crystal Palace this Wednesday. As always Michael Owen has given his predictions for both games after successfully predicting Chelsea versus Manchester United to end 0-0 last Sunday.
Crystal Palace vs Manchester United
While Manchester United will still be eyeing the title, their main focus will be to secure a top 4 finish with Manchester City now far ahead. The draw with Chelsea was not what United would have hoped for before that game, but Michael Owen is backing them to return to winning ways when they travel to Selhurst Park.
Predicting Man United to win 0-1, Owen said: "Sunday’s goal-less draw at Stamford Bridge means that it’s now 20 games unbeaten on the road for Manchester United. They couldn’t get their usual counter-attacking game flowing in that match, but that was down to Chelsea’s tactics more than anything else.
"I think that could be slightly different here. On home soil, Palace are likely to play on the front foot. If that happens, I think United will once again get their reward on the counter. With that in mind, I reckon the away side will take the points, albeit by a narrow margin."
Liverpool vs Chelsea
Michael Owen sited Chelsea's lack of a top quality striker as he predicted the Blues to draw again. However, For that to happen Chelsea must stop Liverpool's attackers from outscoring them, something they have done so well in recent weeks. With that in mind, they will be hoping that Sunday's man of the match winner, N'Golo Kante, will be in the kind of form that saw him keep Man United's Bruno Fernandes quiet.
Giving his thoughts for this game Owen said: "Back at Anfield, Liverpool will be desperate to get on track after a string of poor results on home soil.
"They welcome a Chelsea side that will no doubt be cautious. If Thomas Tuchel sets up to play on the counter, I could see them causing Liverpool problems. However, if there’s one thing missing from this Chelsea side it’s a recognised number nine.
"With that in mind, I think this one will be tight. It’s a 1-1 draw for me."
The result Michael Owen predicted for this fixture will come as a surprise to many as Liverpool has been in poor form, especially at home where they have not won a league match since 16 December 2020, a 2-1 win over Tottenham.
