REPORTS: Barcelona midfield star Frenkie de Jong suffers hamstring injury, could be out for weeks

Without any doubts, Barcelona football club were one of the few active La Liga clubs during the summer transfer window before it was shut in September.

The Camp Nou side are keen on winning back the prestigious La Liga trophy from Atletico Madrid and have splashed the cash during the summer.

Do remember that Barcelona completed the signings of several players including Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero and Luuk de Jong to bolster their squad.

However, that has not quite worked out for them so far as Barcelona are currently sitted in ninth position on the La Liga table after taking up 15 points from the nine league matches they have played.

Coupled with that disappointing start to the season, Barcelona could now be rocked with reports that central midfielder Frenkie de Jong has suffered an hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old Netherlands International, who joined Barcelona after leaving Eredivisie side Ajax in 2019 has been an important member of the first-team squad since he made the move.

The young central midfielder enjoyed an interesting 2020/2021 season where he scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 59 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona.

Frenkie de Jong has also started the 2021/2022 season on a strong note and has registered two assists in 11 appearances so far, helping his club to ninth on the table.

However, Barcelona would now have to play their next match against Rayo Vallecano with the enigmatic central midfielder as he suffered an hamstring injury in their latest match against Real Madrid.

According to reports from Daily Mail, Frenkie de Jong suffered the injury in the second half of the 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou and he is now set to miss a few games.

And with the absence of Frenkie de Jong, it remains to be seen how manager Ronald Koeman will now tweak his formation in order to bring Barcelona back to winning ways against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday.
