Meet The EPL Star Who Has Never Scored From Outside The Box

Scoring sometimes requires shooting from long distances or free-kicks but Michail Antonio has never scored from the outside of the box for West Ham United

Michail Antonio is a professional footballer who plays for West Ham United and the Jamaica national team.

The 31-year-old started his career at a non-league club Tooting & Mitcham United before signing for a championship club Reading in 2008.

He was sent on subsequent loan spells to Cheltenham Town, back to Tooting & Mitcham, Southampton, and Colchester United, as he struggled to find his place in Reading's first team.

A final loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday resulted in a permanent move in 2012. He scored 12 goals in 64 appearances for Sheffield.

He caught the attention of West Ham United after his record of 16 goals in 50 appearances for Nottingham Forest who signed him from Sheffield Wednesday.

West Ham United sighed him in 2015 and he was deployed in several positions including right-back, right midfielder, and winger.

He eventually established himself as the club's main striker and on the 23rd of August 2021, he became West Ham United's all-time top scorer in the Premier League with 52 goals.

Antonio is a player who has been lauded for his versatility throughout his time at West Ham but has never scored from outside of the box. Funny

Antonio has been on England’s radar since Roy Hodgson’s time in charge of the national team and despite having been named in first-team squads by both Sam Allerdyce and Gareth Southgate, the center-forward was never granted a debut.

Therefore, Antonio decided earlier this year that his international future lies with Jamaica – the country of his parents’ birth – rather than England. The prospect of more regular international football was the most significant factor in the player’s reasoning.

England boss Gareth Southgate brought several fascinating players with him in the forward positions for Euro 2020 this summer. However, none provided the kind of alternative to Harry Kane that Antonio might have offered, with England falling short at the final hurdle.

Increased maturity is seen as a crucial factor in Antonio’s resurgence.
