It feels so horrible when football fans show some act of indecency towards their own players. No one expected the Italian fans' gesture towards Donnarumma in the UEFA Nations League Semifinal game yesterday.
Gigio was brought down to tears after being whistled and booed by the Italian fans. It wasn't a good night for the player, seeing the football fans who once supported him insulting him in an important game like that is demoralizing. For a young boy in his early twenties, i don't think he's emotionally charged to take in those hoots from the fans.
I must say that this is an unfair act that must be condemned. He gave them the global image in football in the last few months and this is what they used to pay him back. No one foresaw Italy winning the Euro 2020 but Gigio and his saves aided the victory for the Azzurri. There is every reason why they should be giving him some respect in that match yesterday.
Booing him for leaving AC Milan for PSG is pointless. Because when you look at the earlier circumstances before the free transfer to the French club, Gigio demanded a transfer in the 2019 summer transfer window. AC Milan was reluctant to let him go and fulfill his dreams. He had to leave for free after the last season, the best choice to make for a goalie of his class. Talking about the money, AC Milan is not ready to offer him the cash he wanted. As a professional footballer, his pursuit for money is quite understandable within the European prefixes.
Italy lost the game at the end of the day. This is the price they paid for making Gigio feel so bad last night. For every act of ingratitude, there is always a price to pay for it. They lost their unbeaten 37 games record and were knocked out of the Nations League.
