Ten things we noticed as Arsenal stunned Manchester City 2-0 to reach the FA Cup final

Arsenal took on Manchester City in the FA Cup semifinal at an empty Wembley stadium on Saturday. It was the second meeting between the two sides since the restart, with City comprehensively winning thLeague match at the Emirates 3-0.

Arsenal were looking to build on their good form, while City were looking to move a step closer to their ninth domestic cup title out of eleven as Guardiola sought to beat his former protege Mikel Arteta again. But at the end of the day, the Gunners pulled off a shock 2-0 victory, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang grabbing a goal in both halves.

Here are ten things we noticed as Arsenal marched on to the Finals if this season's FA Cup.

1. City debut new jersey

The season is still on, but teams have begun debuting their new strips for next season. The likes of Chelsea and Bournemouth have used their new kits, and Man City followed suit today, as they made use of their new home jersey. Pretty nice looking.

2. City dominate possession

It went on as expected, with Man City dominating possession. What was however unexpected was the fact that Arsenal - while compact at thee back - were much sharper going forward, and they created the better chances in the first half.

3. Aubameyang opens the scoring

As said, the Gunners were creating chances, and should've been ahead earlier, but Aubameyang had his effort saved by Ederson. There was to be no such luck for City the second time, as the Gabonese finished off a swift counter, poking in on the stretch from Nicholas Pepe's cross.

4. Errors from both sides

Both sides made some errors, with most coming from City. Bellerin hit a pass straight to G.Jesus at the edge of the box, while Laporte did similar, and Ederson did even worse, passing the balk into space for Arsenal to capitalize. Fortunately for him, they didn't.

5. Arsenal compact as City frustrated

City ended the first half on top, and they seemingly started to find their way. It was a solid performance from the Gunners, with Granite Xhaka in particular standing out. Arteta must've been pleased. Certainly not Pep.

6. City dominate even more

The second half resumed the way the first ended, with city bossing possession. Arsenal barely hot out of their own half, and survival was the priority for Arteta's men, who did well to just keep City at bay.

7. Auba strikes again

As Man City were busy chasing the equalizer, they got sucker punched in clinical fashion. Arsenal spread the ball on the counter, and after Pepe pulled it back for Tierney at the halfway line, the Scottish fullback lifted a pass over the defence for Aubameyang to run to. He had support from Lacazetre, but it wasn't needed at the end, as he finished under Ederson to make it 2-0 Arsenal.

8. Arsenal remain dogged as Pep is frustrated

The mountain became even higher for Man City to climb, as they now had to score two goals in less than 30mins - stoppage time included - against a dogged Arsenal defence. Guardiola often cut a frustrated, disappointed figure on the sidelines, as his side toiled and no avail.

9. Arteta gets one over his master.

It ended 2-0 to the Gunners, who pulled off an effective plan to beat the favorites for the title. It also marks the first victory for Arteta over his former boss Guairiola, whom Arteta used to assist at the Etihad stadium.

10. Arsenal march on to the finals.

While they have endured an ultimately disappointing season - languishing in the middle if the league table for longer than expected - Arsenal are ending g the season on a high, and are now a step away fro winning their first trophy since winning the same trophy back in 2017. They now await the winner between Manchester United and Chelsea, who play tomorrow.
