The Premier league has seen some of the most incredible strikers in world football play for them, which made English teams some of the most dangerous teams any opponent could face.
However, among all these players, are other great forwards who did the unthinkable by scoring five goals in a match in a league that is regarded as the toughest one to play in.
So in this article, we will take a look at the only five players in Premier League history to have ever scored five goals in a single match.
1. Andy Cole vs Ipswich (1995)
At the begining of the Premier League era, Andy Cole was perhaps the hottest and clinical striker having made a name for himself at Newcastle. This incredible form earned him a move to Manchester United in January 1995, where he formed a deadly partnership in Alex Ferguson's side.
Two months later, he did the incredible when he became the first player to score five goals in a match in United's 9-0 thrashing of Ipswich. The striker scored twice in the first half and got a hatrick in the second half.
2. Alan Shearer vs Sheffield
One of England's greatest ever player, Alan Shearer's reputation as a deadly striker for Blackburn earned him a move to Newcastle where he proved his worth by scoring five goals in a match against Sheffield Wednesday. The English man got a brace in the first half and scored a hat trick in the second half of the game, making him the second player to achieve the feat four years after Andy Cole.
3. Jermaine Defoe vs Wigan (2009)
Jermain Defoe has had a relatively great personal career in England, as though his career was lacking of trophies but not in goals. The English man got himself in the record book for Tottenham when he ran riot against Wigan in 2009 with five goals in Tottenham's 9-1 of sorry Wigan.
The most amazing part was Tottenham's incredible second half display as the game was 1-0 at half time, with Peter Crouch puting the host in the lead. Things however, got terrible for Wigan as Defoe's five second half goals was the show of the match as Spurs ran out 9-1 winners.
4. Dimitar Berbatov vs Blackburn (2010)
Arguably the best Bulgarian player to ever play in England, the towering Berbatov was one of the most clinical striker to play in the Premier League and he did justice to the number 9 he wore throughout his time at Manchester United. In a match against Blackburn in 2010, the Bulgarian became the fourth player to hit five goals past an opponent in a match, and also the first foreigner to achieve that feat in Manchester United's 7-1 thrashing of Blackburn Rovers.
5.Sergio Aguero vs Newcastle (2015)
Sergio Aguero celebrated his return from injury by hitting five against Newcastle United in a Premier League match in 2015. The Argentine, arguably the greatest player to ever play for Manchester City, was sure in a good mood that afternoon as he eventually went home with the match ball.
