Among the two prominent candidate, Okonji Iweala and Yoo Myung hee , who ever emerges winner would be tasked with supervising and directing the organization's administrative operations.

Although, the Director General is one of the highest and most respected position in the World trade organization, it power is little but decisive over matters of policy. 

This is due to the fact that the World Trade Organizations' decisions are made by member states, which is done through either the General council or a Ministerial Conference.

The main role is primarily managerial and advisory. The Director General would therefore be tasked with supervising the whole WTO secretariat, which is estimated to be filled with about 700 staff 

The primary essence of World Trade Organization (WTO) as a whole, is to ensure that trade flows as smoothly, predictably and freely as possible.
