No doubt the advent of technology has had its positive impact on our society as humans ....
Nevertheless there are some negative effects of technology that we have to beware of;...
1) Carpal tunnel Syndrome:
This is a feeling of tingling, numbness and weakness on the hand, particularly the wrist area. It happens when pressure is applied to the median nerve in an awkward and extreme position.
For example, when you type consistently for long hours or play games like God of war on PlayStation...you have to punch the controls hard and as fast as you can.
Symptoms of Carpal tunnel Syndrome include;
1) Burning and itching numbness on the palm, index and middle fingers.
2) Weakness of the hand and difficulty holding things.
3) Tingling sensation from the fingers down to the shoulders.
Carpal tunnel Syndrome can also get worse and degenerate to what is called Tendonitis.
Tendonitis is characterized by swelling of the fingers and wrist, dislocation of finger bones and the likes.
It is a very severe condition mostly experienced by typists and addicted gamers
2) Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity:
This is a syndrome attributed to Electromagnetic waves. Though it is not accepted as an illness yet, it does affect people.
The symptoms are not specific as they are spread across different areas of health.
The symptoms include; Headache, stress, fatigue, prickling and tingling sensations around the body, sleep disturbance etc...
3) Eye strain:
Many computer and phone users spend a lot of time starring at the screens of their gadgets
Some stare at their screens from awkward positions and for long periods of time. This causes eye strain characterized by red eyes, dry eyes, blurred and double vision, headache and light sensitivity.
When eye strain is not controlled it could escalate into other eye complications like glaucoma, short sightedness and eventually blindness.
4) Emotional Instability:
This is more common among the youths than the adults. Youths tend to see things particularly on social media that tends to influence them and their mental health
They tend to see the world as a competition. For example when individual A sees how individual B went shopping and all the goodies individual B bought. Individual A will want to go shopping too and when individual A doesn't have the means, he/she tends to get depressed...hence the popular phrase or question "God when" lol.
Also youths that are "addicted" to social media tend to have low self-esteem and become introverts.
They lose the ability to interact with other people face to face.
Insomnia can be defined as a medical condition characterized by lack of sleep, fatigue and stress.
Chatting and using of phones late into the night is a major cause of insomnia. And I know most of us are guilty of this aspect.
Using of phones and other gadgets late into the night will give the user so many things to think of and instead of allowing our brains to rest or reduce workload, we tend to over stress our brains, thereby depriving ourselves of quality sleep. And normally we are supposed to have at least 9 hours of sleep.
From statistics Insomnia is the most common health problem related to technology
