In Nigeria as a country,we pay for electricity to be supplied to us in our different homes even if power supply is not frequent,we still have to pay.
This has caused a big problem for people living in poverty or middle class citizens of the country as they cannot afford to pay for the power supply. Sometimes when they manage to pay, power supply is not supplied frequently and even when it is,the consumption rate increases rapidly and in the twinkle of an eye,it is all gone. And this has led to some set of people living in darkness.
Here are five ways to reduce electricity consumption and help you save bills for other things:
1. Shut Down Computers
Computers and other high power consuming electronics are some of the main causes of power drainage. Always make sure to shut them down every time you are not busy doing anything on it and always at night while going to sleep as this can help you save power in case there is power supply during the night. If you don't want to shut it down during the day because of stress or time wastage, then at least put it on screen saver and power saver.
It would really reduce your power consumption and you would be happy it did.
2. Unplug Unused Electronics From Their Sockets
Devices like televisions, microwaves, scanners, printers, electric fans and electric cookers use standby power, even when there is no power supply. Some chargers continue to pull small amounts of energy from sockets when they are plugged in,that is why a charger feels warm when they are touched. So it is advisable to remove or unplug any connection from its socket when not used or even purchase a power strip. A power strip puts everything in the house on or off depending on what you want.
3. Choose The Right Led Bulbs
Traditional incandescent light bulbs which we all know as the red or orange coloured ones consume an excessive amount of electricity and also don't last long. If you want to save energy, avoid these light bulbs. Compact fluorescent lights, and light-emitting diode bulbs use anywhere from 50-90% less electricity and last three to 25 times longer than traditional incandescent light bulbs,so you now know the type of bulbs to choose
Although energy saving bulbs are more expensive, efficient energy use and longer service lives mean that they cost less in the long run. At the end when energy saving bulbs are exhausted, you will discover that if it were the traditional ones, you would have used up to five or ten of them.
4. Monitor Your Electricity Usage:
Make sure you own a prepaid metre which would help you watch and control your electricity usage. Check the prepaid metre frequently so as to know how much power you use per day, check the differences between the other days and take note of the equipments used per day so that you will know what exact equipment eats up your power supply.
I hope this has been of help to you in a way or the other. If it has,why not follow me for more updates and don't forget to like, comment and share for others to benefit from.
