2.Have a strong password.

To protect your emails you need a very strong password. But remember never use your name,spouse name that can be easily guessed by anyone. You can use a set of alpha numeric characters or numbers. I will recommend a password manager.

3. Update your software.

Always remember to update your software to prevent them from hacking your email.
