Founder and CEO of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, Mark Zuckerberg has announced a new feature for WhatsApp users. He made the announcement today, Thursday 14th of September on his Facebook. The feature which he said has started rolling is known end-to-end encrypted backups.
While announcing the feature, Mark said he was proud of the team for continuing to lead on security for users' private conversation.
"End-to-end encrypted backups for WhatsApp starting to roll out today. Proud of the team for continuing to lead on security for your private conversations." he said.
The new feature will enable end-to-end encrypted backups, be it from sending and transit, to receiving and storing in the cloud.
According to the company, it is expected that the new feature will provide people with more privacy and security for their digital conversations.
Steps to creating end-to-end encrypted backup:
*Tap Chats > Chat Backup > End-to-end Encrypted Backup.
*Tap Continue, then follow the prompts to create a password or key.
*Tap Done, and wait for WhatsApp to prepare your end-to-end encrypted backup.
To turn off, you go through the same steps by opening Settings and tapping on Chats. Then you click on Backup and select End-to-end Encrypted Backup. Next, you enter your password. Confirm that you want to turn off encrypted backup by tapping Turn Off.
