The Federal Government and global internet company, Google, are making necessary steps to work together to curb the excesses of subversive YouTube channels being used to spread hate speech and false information against Nigerian Government by terror groups.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, made this known on Thursday, 4th August 2022, during a courtesy call on him by a delegation from Google in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Lai Mohammed expressed delight, said that the Federal Government and Google share the same concern on the responsible ways of using social media.
According to Lai Mohammed, the Federal Government wants Google to look into how to tackle the use of private YouTube channels and emails by terror groups. The Federal Government asked Google to block all the YouTube channels and emails containing names of anti-peace groups and their affiliates, as part of steps to tackle insecurity challenges tormenting the country, lamenting that Google has become a platform of choice for anti-peace operatives groups in the country.
Lai Mohammed also asked the Representatives of Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp to look into the platforms and block any account making speech against the Federal Government.
