GOD'S POWER: Sudden display of God’s Power
Man as an entity is in every way limited in his ways, pursuit, adventure, glamour, devices and understanding.
No matter how strong, powerful, rich, wealthy, worldly acclaimed, well intellectually endowed and influential you become or you are already, you will still be surprised if not shocked that there exist a feeling of incompleteness within you no matter how you try to free your mind.
However, there is a man who is complete in all, mighty in battle for he is the Commander of the heavenly armies, the Almighty God; Jehovah is His name!
The display of His power and authority on earth here on earth and in heaven above is unquestionable and undisputable marvelous. His totality in supremacy over His creations is awesome.
He makes the impossibilities possible; He showed his supremacy to Nebuchadnezzar when He discredited the order of combustion: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego walked in the furnace prepared on the directive of Nebuchadnezzar without being hurt because Omnipresent was in the furnace with them thus making their garments even more whiter—what a purifier! (Read Daniel 3:24-27).
Another account of God’s power could be seen in Ezekiel chapter 37. The power of God came upon Ezekiel and was carried away by the Spirit of God to a valley full of old dry bones that were scattered everywhere. But when the power of God came upon the dry bones, “suddenly there was a rattling noise from all across the valley, and the bone of each body came together and attached to each other as they used to be”, living!
He showed and proved His power as indeed The King of kings to Belshazzar (successor of Nebuchadnezzar) who abused the temple’ sacred cups by drinking to toasts from these cups unto their idols made of gold and silver, brass and iron, wood and stone. But, “suddenly, as they were drinking from these cups, they (Belshazzar, his princes, wives and concubines) saw the fingers of a man’s handwriting on the plaster of the wall.
Belshazzar himself saw the fingers as they wrote and his face blanched with fear and terror gripped him. As if this was not enough, what the Almighty God wrote could not be interpreted by his professors, magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans and soothsayers. They all failed!
Daniel, God’s servant and a citizen of the Writer’s nation interpreted what was written. And that same night, The Maker of the heavens and the earth, The Owner of life seized Belshazzar breath for he was slained (read Daniel 5).
God through his begotten son Jesus Christ established His supremacy and authority, He was empowered, loaded and filled with The Spirit of God that he went about doing good--good works, showing the Way, healing the sick and casting out demons (Matthew 4:23, 9:35). One of these many good works was the case of two blind men who called-out to Jesus for help: that they may see. These men believed in God’s power and they were not disappointed for they received and got back their sight.Matthew 9:30 says “And suddenly, they could see! Jesus sternly warned them not to tell anyone about it.”
God’s power brings glory; Jesus took Peter, James and John to the mountain top before his crucifixion and there His face suddenly began to shine with glory. (See Mark 9:2)
There is also a record of a government official who had a share of God’s power.
This man told Jesus about his son’s health condition that was the point of death;
Jesus replied and told him to go back home for his son healed and the man believed. Lo and behold the boy was made whole and restored that same hour.
This establish the fact that with faith man can please God and vice versa. Faith is therefore an essential key to tapping from God’s power.{see Hebrews 12:1}.
At the resurrection of Jesus Christ, suddenly there was a great earthquake (God’s power don’t bring ordinary experience, but extra ordinary events).
When Peter was to be executed by king Herod after a Passover celebration, God proved his power by setting the captive free. Acts 13:6 & 7 records that the night before he was to be executed, he was asleep, double-chained between two soldiers with others standing guard before the prison gate, when suddenly there was a light in the cell and an angel of the Lord stood beside Peter tapping him to get up and the chains fell off his wrist [paraphrased]. When God step into a situation no obstacle could hinder Him from doing what pleases Him per time. He can’t be restrained nor restricted by any principalities no matter how highly placed.
To prove that His power is not fluke and undisputable, stronger and effective than any other. He did same in the case of Paul and Silas. Both were also imprisoned for preaching the gospel of our Lord Jesus in Macedonia. The Bible states that around mid-night when Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to the Lord, “suddenly there was great earthquake; the prison was shaken to its foundation, all the doors flew open and the chains of every prisoner fell off. (See Acts 16:26).
Before Paul became saved—becoming a believer and carrier of God’s word and mission, he threatened, persecuted and sponsored killings of many Christians including famous Stephen. God met him on his way to Damascus where he was heading to further persecute Christians there, but suddenly about noon a very bright light from heaven shone around him and this particular encounter brought about his salvation and turned his life around for Christ use. And God’s power rested upon Paul mightily that he did several exploits in the mission committed to him. He failed not in his stewardship! May that be our testimony too in Jesus name.
