Ibadan is the capital of Oyo State, Nigeria. It is a famous city that was formerly the second most populous state in Africa. Ibadan is also known for its brown roofs, a beautiful sight to behold. There are many tourist attractions in Ibadan. Keep reading to know three places to visit in Ibadan City.

1. The University of Ibadan. Fondly called UI by staff, students and alumni, the University of Ibadan is the first established university in Nigeria. There are various faculties in the universities that have produced notable alumni, such as Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, Grace Alele-Williams, and many others.

There are various places to visit within UI, the University's renowned zoological garden, the Awba dam, sports recreational centres and restaurants.

2. IITA Forest Reserve. The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is a research site for students and professionals in agricultural research.

The forest reserve covers about 350 hectares of land — quite a sight to behold. It has features like ponds and lakes, farmlands, a reservoir; you also get to see a couple of rare migrating birds. It is advisable to visit early in the day.

There are recreational facilities such as a golf course, restaurants, a pool and a safe playing area for kids. You can lodge in the hotel rooms if you need a place to stay.

3. Mapo Hall. This is one of the oldest historical sites in Nigeria. Mapo Hall was commissioned during the colonial era in 1929 by Captain Ross. It is located at the top of Mapo Hill in Ibadan. The project was constructed through communal labour by people in villages and towns within Ibadan.

Mapo Hall is currently used as a venue for conferences, there is a mini-museum for tourists. It is also an excellent site for photoshoots.
