Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and for that reason it has been nicknamed The Giant of Africa for a very long time. Asides population , Nigeria has proven to be a continental powerhouse in many other aspects including entertainment , fashion , football , education and a host of other things. However, this great nation's image may have been soiled by the international media with the continuous portrayal of Nigeria as a country ridden with slums , insecurity, poverty and terrorism. In as much as there are some aspects of these things that are true, it is always important not to generalize an entire nation ; especially a nation of over 150 million people. In Nigeria there is indeed the presence of the Boko Haram sect; but unlike what the media may potray, bombs are not dropping in every Corner of the country. In Nigeria there are slums; however there are still some places that can compete with other well-known high standard cities in the world.

Nigeria has several geo-political zones and the country is majorly divided into two; The South and The North. This article aims at showcasing the beautiful cities,towns,kingdoms and states in Nigeria , from the country's diverse regions.


Bonny Kingdom

Bonny Island has been described by first-time visitors as a place naturally adorned with greenery , cleanliness and orderliness . These are the featured that usually grab first time visitor's attention. The island has also been described by lots of people as a natural paradise where infrastructure and nature blend together in harmony. It has been purported as one of the areas in the country with stable and constant electricity. The kingdom is home to lots of oil and gas firms and as well, foreign expatriates. It is however important to note that the tourism potential of this place is gradually getting bigger as the years go by .



Lagos City

In most documentaries , ghettos and shanty towns are usually the faces of Lagos . They are the images presented to the international public as the "reality" of Lagos. However, it's an undeniable fact that Lagos does have slums and ghettos. Nonetheless, it is vital to balance such reports by also showcasing the beautiful parts of Lagos. Famous figures like international rapper , Cardi B , once likened Lagos City to New York City due to the bustling nature both cities have in common. Another common feature/history both cities share is that they are the commercial heartbeat of their respective countries and were former capitals .

Lagos City is the biggest city in the State of Lagos, as well as in Nigeria and the Continent of Africa. It is one of the fastest growing cities on Earth and a major financial centre in Africa. It had the fourth-highest GDP in Africa as of 2019.


Calabar City

During the last census conducted in Nigeria (2006), this city had a population of about 371,000 people . Being the capital of Cross River State, Nigeria, It was originally called Akwa Akpa (in the Efik language). Calabar city is located adjacent to the creeks of the Cross River and the Calabar and Great Kwa rivers . The city has been often referred to as the tourism capital of Nigeria. This is majorly due to the several initiatives implemented during the 1999-2007 Duke Administration , which transformed the city into the cleanest and most environmentally friendly city in the country. Kano City

This is the capital city of the state of Kano ,North Western Nigeria. Kano is located in the Sahelian geographical region, which is in the south of the Sahara. Kano is the commercial heartbeat of Northern Nigeria, the largest city in Northern Nigeria and the second largest city in Nigeria.

The main inhabitants of kano city are the people of the Hausa ethnic group, although there are few Fulani speakers. Just like in most parts of northern Nigeria, the Hausa language is widely spoken in Kano.

Abuja is the Nation's capital city , located right at the centre of the country within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). It is a planned city which was built from scratch in the 1980s. It was Lagos' replacement as the capital of Nigeria on 12th December 1991. Many people outside Nigeria may still assume Lagos as the capital city of Nigeria due to its prolific nature.

Abuja had a population of about 776,298 during the 2006 census. This made it one of the ten most populous cities in the country. According to the United Nations' data, Abuja grew by 139.7% between 2000 and 2010, this made it the fastest growing city in the world.

Also called Pitakwa in Nigerian pidgin English, it is the capital and largest city of Rivers State. It is located along the Bonny River in the Niger Delta. As of 2016, the Port Harcourt urban area has an estimated population of 1,865,000 inhabitants.
