Ekiti Bans All Traditional Festivals Across The State Amid Covid-19 Pandemic.
The government of Ekiti State has today Saturday banned all traditional Festivals in all towns and villages accross the state, in other to curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
He made it known that Ekiti State had recorded total number of 78 Covid-19 cases, with 29 active, 47 discharged and 2 death. He warned the state populace that the case can drastically increased, if there is continuation of social gathering without checkmating.
The Prof said; the state had been observing traveling in and out within the state amongst the citizens and also visitors from other states accross the country, amid participation in various traditional Festivals in villages and towns of the state.
He said; there is great possibility of transmission of covid-19 in such a large gathering, where all preventive measures to contain coronavirus will be difficult to observe. As a result of that, the best step it to suspends these festivals for now.
In lieu of this, the prof said; we urge all the Obas, Councillors and community leaders to suspend all the upcoming Festivals and quit the ongoing ones accross the state, till further notice.
The state coordinator for for Covid-19 Task Force says, this order of social distance, large gathering and wearing of mask, would be enforced by the security forces.
We ask for your cooperation because of the current situation of the state, amid recorded confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the state.
News Agency of Nigeria, reports that among the traditional Festivals that will be affected by this ban from government are: Egungun festival, (masquerade) Ogun festival, (God of iron) and celebration of cultural day in various villages and towns in all part of the state
