English is the second language spoken by Nigerians. It is their Lingua Franca because it was adopted from a foreign Country, Britain, being their colonial masters.
Most of the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institutions of learning use English Language to teach and communicate because of the different languages that exist in Nigeria. Most people in a bid to speak English, result to abusing it.

It is not Packer (as in Dustbin)........ It is Dust pan
It is not Night Vigil........ It is Vigil
It is not Wake keeping/Wake keep............ It is Wake
It is not Working Experience ........... It is Work Experience
It is not Go Slow........... It is Hold
It is not Up Nepa.............It is Power Restoration
Ways to overcome these mistakes:
1) Try to use dictionary as often as possible
2) Cultivate the habit of listening to news
3) Learn new words everyday
4) Watch English movies that are Educative
5) Engage in English Conversation or constructive arguments etc
All these listed above will help in no small measure towards building your vocabularies.
