Not everyone knows about Davido's grandfather, Chief Deji Adeleke who was responsible for the planning and creation of the popular Banana island.
Though everybody knows that Davido is of Yoruba origin paternally, his father Dr Adedeji Adeleke who is the son to the chief was also born with a silver spoon just like his son, but how much do you know about Chief Adebayo Adeleke?
Chief Adebayo Adeleke was a Nigerian architect and engineer who died in 1987. Prior to resettling his family in the Bronx, Adeleke, chief of the Yoruba people, worked as an entrepreneur, architect, and engineer. He is best known for planning and creating Banana Island, a luxury development built on a manmade island in Lagos Lagoon. He was married to Pauline Adeleke and had two sons.
Chief Adebayo studied civil engineering in (MICE), London. Banana Island construction project entitled Lagoon City was the brainchild of the Late Chief, he is the CEO of City Property Development Ltd.
The chief had initially commissioned a new urban development in Maroko, Victoria Island, but unknowingly for chief Adeleke, Lagos State government had acquired the project already but after a tough 10 year court case, he was eventually offered some parcels of land as consideration for the Maroko development by the Lagos State government.
Now talking of Banana Island, Chief Adebayo had his plan designed well as his goal and objective was to turn Banana Island into the most luxurious and expensive resort in Africa. As part of his plan, he shared his idea with some possible stakeholders but unfortunately, they aren't seeing it from the same picture as him. This made him hire a foreign construction company to carry out the project.
For people that don't know about Banana Island, it's an area of Ikoyi in Lagos state located 8.6 kilometres east of Tafawa Balewa Square which is part of the Lagos Local Government Area of Eti-Osa in Central Lagos.
