Kabiru Musa who is the Charge d’ Affairs of the Nigerian Mission in Libya has said in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday that 330 Nigerians have been evacuated from Libya on the same day. He also disclosed that in November alone, about 1000 Europe bound Nigerians have been evacuated from the same country.
This is an ugly report that shows how desperate and hungry for greener pastures some Nigerians are. However, there are things the Federal Government of Nigeria can do to curb out this illegal migrations some people partake in order to get to Europe.
First and foremost, the FG should utilize radio stations, newspapers, blogs, news agencies, schools and social media to propagate the disadvantages of leaving the country without a valid visa and the dangers of trying to get to Europe by foot.
Secondly, the FG should reinforce the Nigerian Customs and Immigration officials to take their jobs really serious in order to man the borders properly.
Thirdly, the FG should work on providing employment to curb illegal migrations and also seed funds for start-up businesses.
