Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was the former Nigerian Prime Minister at Independence in 1960 uptil the collapse of the first Republic. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was born in December 1912 in modern-day Bauchi State, in the Northern Nigeria Protectorate. He began his educational career at a Qur'anic School in Bauchi and later went to Tafawa Balewa elementary school in Bauchi after the Qur'anic School and proceeded to Bauchi provincial school.
