Eighteen assorted guns including what the police called triple-barrel guns were recovered alongside 567 high-calibre bullets and 16 gun magazines from some hoodlums who kept the arms and ammunition inside vehicles, the Niger State Police Command announced on Friday, October 8. Three young men were arrested by the operatives of the state police command during the stop-and-search conducted on two occasions on the highways in the state, leading to the discovery of the weapons and bullets.
Over 500 live ammunition was recovered from suspected gunrunners by Niger Police Command. Monday Bala, the State Police Commissioner said the suspects have confessed to the crime. According to him, Muhammadu Bello and Nura Umar both from Kebbi State were arrested after a hot chase by the Police when they refused to stop their vehicle at the regular Police checkpoint.
