Idris Muhammad Bugaje was born in Bugaje town, Katsina State, North West Nigeria.He attended primary and secondary schools in Katsina.In 1980, Bugaje received his first degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.He later obtained a MSc in 1988.Between 1990 and 1993, he acquired a Commonwealth scholarship and fellowship award in the United Kingdom, where he bagged his PhD in Energy Engineering at the University of Newcastle Upon-Tyne.
