You might have wondered why the king of Sokoto has the title “Sultan” unlike other Northern states that have the title “Emir.” There is just one Sultan. The Sultan of Sokoto is also referred to as “Sokoto Caliph,” the title signifies the kind of authority it has.

Aside from the Boko Haram group, the Fulani herders, have also been pointed out as a group that has been behind series of attacks in these Northern states, but the government has not declared this group as a terrorist group.

Two (2) out of the many northern states currently controlled by the All Progressives Congress (APC), may likely be reclaimed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), if the current crisis within the ruling party in these states continues. Already, there are visible signs which show that PDP may have become the more stable Party within these states, owing to the many problems currently bedeviling the ruling party.
It is no longer news that the Lagos and Rivers State governments have already embarked on the process of collecting VAT (Value Added Tax) in their states, they did that because of a judgment of a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, which ruled that states, and not the Federal Inland Revenue Service, should be collecting VAT.

Following the case filed by the Rivers State Government to take control of the collection of Value Added Tax, the Lagos state government has filed a suit to be joined as co-respondent to the ongoing VAT issue. In a report, the Southwestern states have come together to agree on a common legal way to present their suit to take charge of VAT collection in all Southwest states.
Recently, there has been a discussion on Value Added Tax,VAT, being collected in each state by the Federal Inland Revenue Service,FIRS. Governor Wike of Rivers spearheaded a move to stop FIRS from collecting revenue by preventing it in his state. This move was later supported by the Southern Governors.

Resident doctors suspend 63 days old strike After long hours of deliberation with its National Executive Council, NEC, members, National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, on Monday suspended its 63 days old industrial action. Disclosing this in a chat with Vanguard the National President of NARD, Dr Godiya Ishaya said the suspension will take effect on Wednesday, the 6th of October, 2021.

The value Added Tax controversy is one of the major issues of discussion in the country at the moment. Since Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike announced that VAT will no longer be collected by FIRS in his state, a lot of eyebrows have been raised across the country most especially some Northern state governors who feel they won't be able to survive without subventions from the federal government of Nigeria.
The Governor of Katsina State , Aminu Masari during a consultative meeting with the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammad said seven northern states in the north west and north central have agreed to recruit 3,000 special vigilantes to assist in combating insecurity especially banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling.
The Northern States Governors’ Forum has stated that any candidate with majority votes should become President in the 2023 elections. The Governors made this known in a statement titled, ‘Resolutions Of The Northern States Governors’ Forum Meeting With Northern States Emirs And Chiefs Held On Monday 27th September 2021’, after an emergency meeting on Monday in Kaduna State.
