A former Senator of Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani has taken to his verified Twitter handle to give his opinion about the rumored sum of money allegedly budgeted by the Federal Government to monitor WhatsApp messages and telephone satellite, Thuraya. According to the report gathered from The Cable, it was established that the Government had budgeted about $10million, which is equivalent to N4.8billion to the National Intelligence Agency to monitor WhatsApp messages and telephone satellite, Thuraya.

On Monday 12th July, the Nigerian Government budgeted N4.8 billion to monitor WhatsApp, satellite phones. The federal government has earmarked N4.8 billion for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to monitor WhatsApp, an encrypted messaging application and Thuraya (a satellite telephone). This may come off as another form of being caged, constrained, restricted, depriviation freedom of speech, expression, property and also depriviation of fundamental human rights.

Nigerian National Intelligence Agency Got 4.87 Billion Naira To Track What's App and Phone Calls

The Nigerian National Assembly under the leadership of Senator Ahmed Lawn has approved a budget of N4.87 Billion Naira for the National Intelligence Agency to intercept, track, monitor calls and messages on Phones and Thuraya. The money is part of the supplementary budget submitted to the National Assembly by the Federal Government of Nigeria for approval last month and the supplementary budget was approved by both Chambers of the Federal Legislative Parliament.
