When the activities of bandits became intolerable in Zamfara state, a group of civilians armed themselves to tackle banditry without proper regularisation. They called themselves 'Yan Sakai' which translates to Emergency Responders. This group started fighting off bandits and repelling attacks at first until when bandits started overpowering them.
A report has confirmed the killing of 11 persons including an Imam by an outlawed vigilante group known as 'Yan Sakai' in Mamade village, Gwadabawa local government area of Sokoto State. The Imam identified as Malam Aliyu was said to lead prayers at one of the daily mosque in Salame.
For some months now, bandits have been operating heavily in the northern part of Nigeria, killing and abducting many people. Recently, local vigilantes joined the fight against bandits and they're doing a great job.
