Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state on Saturday in Makurdi expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was waxing stronger and would win overwhelmingly at the 2023 general elections. The Benue state governor told newsmen that the PDP was better positioned now and was ready to wrestle power from the ruling APC .
PDP National Convention: One Key Reason Why Saraki May Not Support David Mark To Become PDP Chairman
As the PDP National Convention is fast approaching, there seems to be an internal disagreement among the party Chieftains in the Northern Region. According to The Nation, the Loyalists Ex-Senate President, Bukola Saraki have kicked against the micro-zoning of the National Chairmanship Position to the North-Central.
The planned National Convention of the main opposition party in Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is being perturbed with zoning formula that could be adopted at the convention. It could be recalled that some prominent leaders and members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have, unanimously, set up a Zoning Committee that will assist to solve the problems plaguing the party on the most effective zoning formula that can lead the party through a crisis-free National Convention.
The All Progressives Congress in Cross River State has announced the composition of a special committee to oversee the Zoning of positions during the State Executive Congress coming up soon. A statement by the party’s publicity secretary in the state, Bassey Ita said; “The Committee is mandated to meet immediately and zone positions in the State Executive Committee to the three Senatorial Districts of the State”

Photo Credit: Punchng To this end, many political analysts have predicted that this may mean that the perceived presidential ambition of former vice-president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and that of other potential northern aspirants may have hit the brick wall, since usually, the national chairman of the party and the President elected on the platform of the party, do not come from the same zone.

The rising agitation from Southerners for the zoning of the 2023 Presidency to the region is no longer a secret to the public. It should be recalled that for a while now, the region has been at loggerheads with the North over the issue of zoning of the 2023 Presidency.
